Our work believes in the power of harm reduction, anti-oppression, community care, social justice, and recognizing the impact of systemic barriers on health and well-being.

We operate as a non-hierarchical feminist collective, which means that all of our decisions are reached through collaboration, engaging in critical dialogue, respect, and consensus.

Volunteer with our Board of Directors

Our board is a dynamic and incredible group of volunteers who support the organization in a variety of capacities.

Serving on the Board of Directors is a meaningful opportunity to contribute to the direction and impact of the Amethyst Centre in Ottawa. Most roles require a commitment of approximately 3–5 hours per week, including meetings, preparation, and ongoing communication. During peak periods, such as collective bargaining or major initiatives, Board member engagement may increase to approximately 5–10 hours per week, depending on committee involvement or Board position.

All Board members share a collective responsibility for fundraising activities, contributing their time, networks, and skills in ways that align with their capacities and support a collaborative, values-driven culture of resource stewardship for the organization.

Currently, we are looking for individuals with human resources experience, financial experience, experience with labor relations in a unionized environment, and fundraising experience.
